Why the Wrangler is a fitment-first install

Unlike a full-size pickup with open frame rails and a deep spare-tire well, the Wrangler gives you very little spare real estate under the body. This distinction trips up a lot of first-time buyers. A horn-only kit can look like a screaming deal at well under $300, but if you don’t already run onboard air, you’ll spend that much again on a compressor and tank before it makes a sound. A complete kit costs more up front but is genuinely plug-and-play.

Best complete kit for the JK: HornBlasters Wrango (JKU)

For a four-door 2007-2018 Wrangler Unlimited, HornBlasters’ Wrango JKU kit is the benchmark complete package. It runs dual Shocker horns — a #2 bell at 16.25 inches and a #4 bell at 12.75 inches — fed by a 2-gallon, 6-port air tank and a Viair 380C (HB-2) compressor. The compressor is rated at 120 PSI working pressure with a 90 PSI restart, draws up to 23 amps, flows 1.58 CFM at 0 PSI, and carries a 100% duty cycle at 100 PSI, meaning it can run continuously without overheating while it refills.

The catch is fitment: it’s built for 4WD V6 JKU models only and HornBlasters specifies it needs 2.5 inches or more of total rear lift to clear. Plan on roughly a 3 hour install with basic hand tools. Note that at the time of writing this kit shows as sold out, so check availability before you set your heart on it.

Best complete kit for the JL: HornBlasters Wrango (JLU)

The Wrango JLU kit carries the redesign over to the newer Jeep. It uses dual fiberglass-reinforced ABS Shocker bells (16.25-inch and 12.75-inch), the same 2-gallon 6-port tank, and HornBlasters’ AC-2 Stealth compressor at 120 PSI. HornBlasters quotes a 6-7 second continuous honk on a full tank with a 50-second recovery time — useful real-world numbers most brands won’t publish.

The big advantage here is install time: HornBlasters calls the JLU kit quicker and easier than any of their other kits, at roughly 2 hours. Fitment is narrow, though — 2018-2020 JLU V6 4WD four-door models only, and it’s explicitly not compatible with 2021-and-up Jeeps, eTorque mild-hybrid setups, or the diesel. Like the JKU kit, it currently shows sold out.

Best value: Kleinn bolt-on horn kits (220 series)

If you already run onboard air — or plan to add it — Kleinn’s Jeep-specific 220-series horn kits are the value play, and they’re the loudest spec on this list on paper. Both the JK and JL versions are rated at 154.2 dB at 150 PSI and bolt on with no drilling.

  • The Kleinn 220 (KLJK220) fits all 2007-2018 JK Wranglers, bolts to an existing frame crossmember, installs in about 2 hours, and lists around $304.99.
  • The Kleinn JL220 fits 2018-2026 JL Unlimited four-doors and 2020-2026 Gladiator with the 3.6L gas engine, mounts to the passenger-side frame rail, installs in 1-2 hours, and lists at $249.95.

Here’s the asterisk: both are horn-only. Kleinn states each needs a compressor that maintains at least 100 PSI and a tank of at least 1 gallon, sold separately. Factor that into the budget before comparing the sticker price to a complete kit.

Self-contained alternative if nothing fits

Wrangler fitment is strict, and if your specific year, engine (eTorque, diesel), or lift falls outside a bolt-on kit’s window, a universal self-contained horn is the fallback. Wolo’s Siberian Express PRO (847-858), for example, packs the horn, compressor, and a 2.5-gallon tank into one unit rated at 152 dB with low frequencies of 307/347/440 Hz, and Wolo lists it around $379.99. It isn’t Jeep-specific, so you’ll pick your own mounting spot and fab a bracket, but it sidesteps the fitment-chart roulette entirely.
